ROGERS – Social media went crazy this week with the posting of Cheyenne Woods’ first essay to the Players Tribune in an essay by the LPGA rookie defining herself and her relationship with her famous uncle, Tiger Woods.
Woods says she is surprised by the amount of attention her article titled “What’s in a Name?” is receiving on social media, but is happy with the feedback.
“I was able to meet with the Players Tribune earlier this year and it’s amazing what they’re doing and it was really exciting for me to be able to work with them,” Woods told LPGA.com on Saturday. “I’m really happy with how it turned out and it’s good. I’m getting good feedback from it and it’s really nice to see.”
Midway through her rookie season, Woods says she chose to write the essay now in order to clear up some of the misconceptions about her relationship with her uncle in an effort to better establish her own identity as she makes headway on the LPGA Tour.
“I think it was good timing with me this being my rookie year on LPGA, people getting to know me and separating me from what they already know.”
The essay on Players Tribune is just the first in what Woods hopes will be a recurring contribution to the site, which was launched in 2014 by Derek Jeter.
“I hope to continue a relationship with them. They said whatever I feel like I want to get out I can just reach out to them and hopefully I’ll have a few more coming out in the future.”
With the elephant or in this case Tiger out of the room, fellow players, fans and media are now free to get to know the real Cheyenne Woods.
“I’m doing what I love and I’m very passionate about golf, I love to compete, always been very competitive and I like to have fun.”
It’s great to meet you, Cheyenne.
