Inbee Park has moved to the top of yet another season long race. The No.1 ranked player in the world not only tops the money list but is also leader in scoring average and the one to chase at the top of the Race to the CME Globe. Now, following her T-3 finish at the U.S. Women’s Open leads the Rolex Annika Major Award points standings, ahead of Brittany Lincicome and In Gee Chun.
Named for one of the greatest to have played on the LPGA Tour, the Rolex Annika Major Award recognizes the season’s top performer who has also won a major championship during the year. Park won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June to qualify for this year’s award.
The Career Grand Slam is within grasp this summer for Park who needs just two legs to complete the feat – the Ricoh Women’s British Open and Evian Championship. The South Korean nearly captured the British Open last year. The 54-hole leader backed up into a fourth place finish at Royal Liverpool Golf Club after carding a final round 77. It’s one of four top-10’s for Park in the last five British Opens.
Park has what it takes to win the Evian Championship, winning the event in 2012, before it was considered a major championship. Last year, Park finished T-10 at the season’s final major.
The winner of the Rolex Annika Major Award will be selected announced following the Evian Championship in September.
