U.S. Team going for fourth consecutive Evian Championship Junior Cup Title
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., September 2, 2015 – The LPGA announced Wednesday that Alrik Pan (West Covina, Calf.), Canon Claycomb (Bowling Green, Ky.), Jayna Choi (Collierville, Tenn.) and Latanna Stone (Valrico, Fla.) will represent the United States at the 2015 Evian Championship Juniors Cup. The event will be played September 15-16 at The Evian Resort and Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France, immediately following the conclusion of the LPGA Tour’s fifth major, The Evian Championship.
The Evian Championship Juniors Cup will showcase the top international junior players representing 17 nations from across the globe. Participating countries include: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Finland, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Netherlands, Mexico, China, South Korea, Japan, and USA. Teams will be made up of two males and two females born in or after 2001. Each player must have been nominated by either the Federation or their Union in order to be eligible to compete.
For each round of competition, teams will take the three best gross scores out of the four to represent their total score for each round. The final team scores will be the total of the best six scores (three team members from each round of play).
The players representing Team USA already have a strong list of accomplishments heading into the Juniors Cup. Pan won the AJGA Junior All-Star at Aliante earlier this year, posting a personal-best 7-under 65. Claycomb won his age division at the Teen World Championship held in Pinehurst, N.C. this past July. Choi is familiar with the Evian Championship Juniors Cup as her brother Jacob Choi was a member of Team USA in 2010 and she comes to this year’s team having won the AJGA Wells Fargo Junior Classic earlier this year. And Stone is a prodigy golfer who competed in the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur at just 10 years old.
Last year, the United States captured its third consecutive Evian Championship Juniors Cup, beating out France for the second year in a row. Team USA aims to keep the streak alive led by their team co-captains Ashleigh McLaughlin (Manager, Programs and Marketing The LPGA Foundation) and Shameeka Quallo (Associate Counsel, Legal) from LPGA. If Team USA clinches their fourth title, they will bring the physical trophy back to the States’ to be displayed at LPGA Headquarters.
Notable Evian Championship Juniors Cup alumni include 2015 Masters champion and U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth and two-time First-Team AJGA All-American Brad Dalke.
