KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Four weeks from now Mi Hyang Lee isn’t entirely sure what she’ll return to when she gets home to Columbia, S.C.
Lee left her American base a little over a month ago to head to the Evian Championship and then played a KLPGA event in Korea and a JLPGA event in Japan before heading to Malaysia for the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia. In the time since, Columbia, S.C., was hit by torrential downpours last weekend causing a number of dams to fail and flooding throughout the city.
Lee won’t return to Columbia until after the last event of the Asian swing – the TOTO Japan Classic – but she’s hopeful that her home won’t have been impacted by the flooding. She’s had friends check on it from the outside, but she won’t truly know until she gets home.
“I heard about [the flooding], but I think my house is fine,” Lee said. “I think so. My friends checked it.”
Lee’s called Columbia home since she first joined the LPGA Tour; and the Columbia she saw in pictures post-flooding isn’t the one she’s come to know over the years.
“It’s just really bad. It’s just bad. And I just hope it gets better,” Lee said. “I saw a lot of pictures. I couldn’t see any golf course and the parking lot is like a swimming pool. So just really and I hope it gets better.”
