Caroline Masson shot a season low 8-under par, 64 Friday to take the outright lead midway through the second round of the Cambia Portland Classic. Masson birdied four of her last five holes including her final hole of the day, the par 4, 9th hole to take the outright lead at 10-under par.
“It was really solid, fun, and, yeah, I'm excited about that round. It was really stress‑free,” Masson told the media Friday. “It doesn't really feel that much different. Maybe a couple more putts here and there, and actually, I played the par‑5s much better. I birdied all the par‑5s today. Didn't birdie them at all yesterday. That just makes a big difference. They're easy to hit good shots there.”
Masson holds a one-stroke lead ahead of Julieta Granada who traded spots with Masson at the top of the leaderboard throughout the day. She followed up her opening round 66 with a 3-under par, 69 Friday.
“Yeah, it was nice,” said Granada. “I had two really good days. Today was a little bit more scrambling mode, but I had some good birdies out there to keep the round going. So, you know, it's firm out there. It was a little tricky today with the wind. It was blowing a little harder, so that took a little time to get used to.”
Kim Kaufman sits alone in third at 8-under par thanks to a second round 5-under par, 67.
Rain and wind are expected to move into the area during the afternoon on Friday.
