SUN CITY WEST, Ariz., March 3, 2016 – The field is set for this week’s Walgreens Charity Classic at Grandview Golf Course.
Two players, Lisa DePaulo and Ellie Gibson, earned starting spots in Thursday’s qualifying tournament and will be among a field of 52 Legends of the LPGA (age 45 and over) to kick off The Legends Tour’s 2016 season on Saturday.
DePaulo carded a one-under-par score of 71 in the qualifier and Gibson earned the second spot in a five-hole playoff over fellow Arizona resident Karen Davies.
The fifth annual Walgreens Charity Classic will again feature 36 holes of competition, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Players will compete for a purse of $250,000. In addition, the event will feature a Super Legends Division (age 63 and over) competing for a separate purse.
The tournament pro-am will be held Friday, starting at 8:30 a.m. Clubhouse gates will open at 8 a.m. each day for the competitive rounds.
This year’s field includes nine members of the LPGA and World Golf Halls of Fame, as well as a number of Arizona residents.
Last year’s champion Kris Tschetter of Virginia returns to defend her title, while LPGA veteran Carin Koch of Sweden will be making her Legends Tour debut.
Tickets are on sale for $10 at participating Phoenix-area Walgreens stores with a savings of $5 per ticket off the gate price on tournament days. Tickets at the gate will be $15 per adult each day on Saturday and Sunday.
Kids 13 and under, as well as all active military personnel with IDs, get in free. Tickets include free public parking at the R.H. Johnson Social Hall, as well as complimentary shuttle service to the tournament admission gate.
Once again, the Walgreens Healthy Living Expo will offer a tented area adjacent to the clubhouse showcasing local Walgreens stores, healthy initiatives and free health screenings. Free vendor samples and local business representatives sharing information will also be available at the expo.
All ticket proceeds from the tournament will support official charity partners the American Diabetes Association and Aunt Rita’s Foundation. Representatives from both charities will be on site at the expo to answer questions or to accept additional donations.
