New No. 1
Sung Hyun Park, the newly minted world No. 1, headlines the field this week at the Blue Bay LPGA. The LPGA rookie ascended to the top spot in the Rolex Rankings on Monday when she overtook So Yeon Ryu, who held the No. 1 ranking since June. This week, Park is in the hunt for her third win of the season as she makes her first appearance at Blue Bay. World No. 3 Shanshan Feng, the most recent winner on the LPGA Tour, is also in the field this week in her home country of China. Feng successfully defended her title at last week’s TOTO Japan Classic to pick up her second win of 2017. Anna Nordqvist, the world’s No. 5 ranked player, is also in the field this week as she looks to pick up her third win of the year. This week, Nordqvist is making her first start at Blue Bay since 2014 when she finished tied for 23rd. Rounding out the top-10 in the field are No. 7 In-Kyung Kim, who is returning to Blue Bay for the first time since 2014, and No. 9 Ariya Jutanugarn, who finished third in this event last season.
All We Do Is Win
Seven of this season’s winners are in the field this week in China. In-Kyung Kim is the only three-time winner of 2017, but two-time winners Shanshan Feng, Anna Nordqvist and Sung Hyun Park are in the field this week and have a chance to match Kim with another victory. Also in the field is Mi Hyang Lee, winner of the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, who is coming off a tie for fifth last week in Japan. Haru Nomura is also in the field. She defeated Cristie Kerr in a playoff in Texas earlier this season for her lone victory of the year. Nomura returns to Blue Bay for the first time since 2015 when she finished tied for 23rd.
Back For More
Defending champion Minjee Lee would love nothing more than to cap off this season with a win. Lee picked up her third career win and second victory of 2016 at last year’s Blue Bay LPGA where she carded an opening round, 65 to take early control of the Tournament. She has come incredibly close to winning throughout the 2017 season with 10 top-10s, including a tie for fifth last week at the TOTO Japan Classic. Besides her win in China last season, Lee has just one other start at Blue Bay in 2014, when she finished tied for 14th.
On A Roll
Lizette Salas will look to extend her incredible run of golf this week at Blue Bay. Salas has thrived following a recent hiatus, which allowed her to regroup with her mental and physical game and the results have shown. The world No. 32 has finished in the top-5 in four of her last five starts, dating back to September, as she looks to capture her second career victory on the LPGA Tour. This week, she’s making her first start in Blue Bay since 2015, when she finished tied for 36th.
