Wednesday, the USGA hosted a media day ahead of the 72nd U.S. Women’s Open at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. Reigning U.S. Women’s Open Champion Brittany Lang was on-site along with 2007 U.S. Women’s Open champion Cristie Kerr and world No. 1 Lydia Ko. The trio conducted a clinic with local junior golfers and Ko joked about being just a few years older than her pupils. She also played a practice round on Wednesday. Tuesday, Lang took the U.S. Women’s Open trophy around New York City, including a stop at Citi Field where she hung out with the Mets and snapped a photo with actor Matthew Broderick.
Qualifying for the season’s third major championship began Monday. 2017 LPGA rookie Laura Gonzalez Escallon was one of the first to qualify, earning one of two spots at Butler Country Club in Butler, Pennsylvania. More than 1,700 entries were submitted for this year’s U.S. Women’s Open, which will be staged July 13 – 16, 2017.
