Inbee Park, the current Rolex World No. 3, could reach world number one for the first time in almost three years with a strong performance this weekend at the LOTTE Championship.
Park heads into round three in a tie for fourth at 6-under, four shots back of Brooke Henderson. World No. 1 Shanshan Feng is in a tie for second at 8-under.
Based on projections, Park has to finish in third-place or better to have any chance to move to No. 1 depending on the finish of Feng and the performance of other players near the top of the Rolex Rankings including No. 4 Sung Hyun Park and No. 5 So Yeon Ryu.
However, if Inbee Park wins, she will move to No. 1 in the world regardless of where Feng finishes. Feng has retained the top spot in the world rankings for 22 consecutive weeks.
Park was last number one in the world the week of October 19, 2015.
