Tiffany Joh is the No. 177 ranked golf in the world so you can't blame her for having low expectations on Friday even after a career low 9-under, 62 on Thursday.
But, she's on a hot streak.
She drained a 45-foot birdie putt to start her second round and was off and running. She turned in a 4-under, 67 to continue to lead the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open at 13-under.
"I honestly probably would have taken anything under par (on Friday), but on the first hole right away we made like a 45-footer, and I just started laughing," explained Joh after her round. "I didn't even know what to say. It was a really good start, and I guess I just kept rolling with it."
Joh made five birdies against just one bogey on Friday.
The 45-footer on one may not have even been her best putt of the day. Joh drained one from just off the green on hole 10. At a U.S. Open sectional qualifier earlier this year, she saw Rebecca Artis roll in an 80-footer from off the green and holler at her caddie/husband Jeff Artis to go pick it out of the hole. Joh thought it was so cool and desperately wanted to do that one day.
Her chance came on Friday at hole 10.
"Right when I made that off of the fringe it was a huge putt, like down a tier. I kind of saw him (her caddie) going towards the hole and I was like, yeah, yeah, go get it. And I kind of walked off the green and I felt really cool."
Joh said that only one or two of her putts made on Friday were inside 10 feet.
Joh, who has two career Epson Tour wins, isn't getting ahead of herself, but is realistic about the amazing opportunity ahead this weekend.
"It would be great (to win), I'm such a fan of links golf," said John. "I've always loved playing links golf. It would be huge, but at the same time, I try not to get ahead of myself, and regardless what happens, my caddy and I are having a blast out there."
Joh would be the seventh first-time LPGA winner this year if she can complete the wire-to-wire effort this weekend.
