Coming off a second career victory on the Ladies European Tour and seventh win as a professional at the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic earlier this month, Minjee Lee has a lot to be thankful for. That includes another week on the LPGA Tour, this time for the inaugural Pelican Women’s Championship presented by DEX Imaging and Konica Minolta.
“We are all really grateful for them to step up and be able to put on the event for us,” said Lee, who has not missed a cut in 12 LPGA Tour starts this season. “It has been a tough year for everyone, and just with COVID we weren’t really sure the events that were going to be played. We are all happy to be here and the weather is lovely. Really looking forward to the rest of the week.”
While there’s business at hand in Belleair, Fla., Lee is also anticipating the celebration of her first American Thanksgiving next week. After her time in Pinellas County, she’ll return home to Irving, Texas, then head 15 miles up the road to Coppell to join the Boergers for turkey day in the Lonestar State.
They were the host family for Lee when she competed in the 2015 Volunteers of America Classic as a rookie on the LPGA Tour. Lee also spends time with them occasionally when home between her travels.
“I’ve never really been here for Thanksgiving, so this will be my first time,” said Lee, a native of Australia. “I’m going to have Thanksgiving with my housing in Texas. They’re like my home away from home parents and I’m looking forward to spending it with them. I guess [an equivalent back home is] Australia Day, you can give thanks to Australia.”
