She won the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer in 2012 and 2014 (her third and fifth appearance at Seaview, A Dolce Hotel, respectively), but Stacy Lewis will be the first to tell you that her knowledge of the Bay Course didn’t come overnight.
“It takes playing here a few times to figure it out and different ways to play it,” said Lewis, who set the record for largest margin of victory (six strokes) in tournament history with her win in 2014. “The course is old school. You don’t see a golf course like this anymore. There’s not many trees that come into play, it’s a short walk from tee to green and breaks in the greens are very subtle. Right now, greens are better than they are in June when we normally play.”
Tomorrow, Lewis will tee it up with Anna Nordqvist and Lexi Thompson at 1:06 p.m. The trio own a combined five ShopRite LPGA Classic titles between them, so there’s sure to be plenty of firepower in the grouping as they each begin the quest to add to their trophy case.
“What will be interesting is that you'll see three different ways of playing the golf course,” said Lewis. “You have Lexi who will bomb it; Anna and I are probably going to hit it pretty straight, hit it good. So it will be three different ways to win and be fun playing with people that are comfortable on the course.”
