Grace Godfrey, the 10-month-old daughter of LPGA Tour veteran Jane Park and her husband Pete Godfrey, has been hospitalized since Friday with undiagnosed seizures and brain swelling. Park and Godfrey, who regularly caddies for Ariya Jutanugarn, were together in Dallas for last week’s Volunteers of America Classic when Grace fell ill and was admitted in critical condition. Park has been regularly posting updates on Grace to her Instagram account and has started a blog to keep friends and supporters updated.
“I never thought I would be able to correctly identify the beeping of monitors and machines in a cold hospital room. After all, the first time I was ever admitted into a hospital was when I was giving birth to my little one,” Park wrote in her first post. “After just two nights inside these four walls, I could identify which monitor is loudly vying for our attention, as if to mock us with each loud beep as a reminder of what critical condition our little Grace is in.”
Doctors believe Grace’s seizures are caused by a virus or autoimmune issue and expect her to be hospitalized for at least three weeks. Spearheaded by Park’s close friends Tiffany Joh and Emma Talley, LPGA Tour players, caddies and staff are supporting the family by sending money so they don’t have to focus on finding food during this time away from home. Talley also organized two prayer and reflection sessions during Wednesday’s pro-am at the Marathon LPGA Classic, with the Tour blowing the air horn so those on the course could take time to send prayers and well wishes to the family.
“I always call us a traveling circus, and we're also a traveling family. We're all together every single week and we go from place to place,” said Talley. “So just shows we were a family and when people are in need we can help.”
