My family and I attended the Kingsmill Championship on Saturday, May 17th for the first time. For my two daughters (ages 12 and 9), this was their first chance to experience a professional sporting event. Our expectations were exceeded from the moment we stepped foot on the property.
My oldest daughter’s only wish was to watch Paula Creamer play. She decided to take up golf after watching her win the Women’s US Open in 2010. When we arrived, we went to the Pro Shop to buy a flag for signatures. As soon as we exited the Pro Shop, we saw Paula Creamer talking with friends of her family right in front of us. She was clearly disappointed having missed the cut, but she quickly rebounded seeing young girls so excited to see her. Paula is a consummate professional that understands how impressionable kids are and they will remember that moment forever, especially since she took a picture with them.
Two other players deserve to be recognized as well: Morgan Pressel and Danielle Kang. Morgan took the time to acknowledge my daughters while walking off of the 1st green and even chatted with them after putting on the 2nd hole. She spent several minutes with them and signed autographs too. Morgan was having a tough day, but took the time to make the day memorable for my girls. Danielle Kang also spoke with my girls after her round. She encouraged them to work hard and follow their dreams. She was very sweet and told them that even short girls can play professional golf (both of my girls are short). Their faces lit up like light bulbs!
As your slogan says, “It is different out here” is completely accurate. The fan experience is the best that I have ever witnessed. Please commend all the ladies, especially those that I’ve mentioned above, on how wonderful role models they are not just for golf, but life itself.
Sincerely,
David
