Playing in the pro-am May 13th at the Kingsmill Championship with LPGA pros Chella Choi and Eu-Hee Ji were retired Sergeant Keniel Martinez and in the process of retiring Petty Officer First Class Jim Brown.
Keniel is a retired sergeant in the US Army having served in the transportation area. He has been a peer mentor the last 2 years and works with 3-5 Wounded Warriors on an on-going basis guiding them when they have questions about veteran services, need help relocating, navigating the process of applying and entering school and a host of other topics.
“Knowing I can help someone other than myself is why I do it,” Keniel said. “There weren’t as many programs as there are now when I was transitioning so I want to help my fellow soldiers navigate where to go for the help they need.”
Jim Brown, a Wounded Warrior Project Alumnus for the last year and a half, is retiring from the US Navy and appreciates the assistance and support he has received from Wounded Warrior Project. Jim did tours of duty in Iraq from 2007 – 2011 in counter-rocket operations and suffers from several Gulf War illnesses as a result.
“Golf is my therapy,” he said.
He tries to play two to three times a week, feeling most comfortable in the serene environment of the golf course.
