Amateur
Jones was a 1981 AIAW All-American in her fourth year of varsity golf at The Ohio State University. Also in 1981, she was the third-lowest amateur at the U.S. Women's Open and a semifinalist at both the U.S. Women's Amateur and the Trans-National. Earlier in her amateur career, Jones won the New Mexico Junior Championship three consecutive years, 1974-76, and claimed the 1979 New Mexico State Championship title.
