Career
Despite being threatened by a serious thyroid condition in her first season, Betty still managed to finish second in the running for Rookie-of-the-Year. She won two events in 1972 and was named Most Improved Player, which was a bit of an understatement since she went from 47th on the money list to fourth. She has won twice since including the LPGA Championship in 1976. Later that year she had knee surgery, but has continued to be a consistent money maker through 1979. She drastically cut back her playing schedule in 1981 participating in only 14 events, the first time she has played in less than 20 tourneys since her rookie season. Nevertheless, she managed to win more than $4,000 more than she did in 1980.

Amateur
Betty was low qualifier for the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 1968, and was a quarterfinalist in the Doherty Challenge Cup that same year.
