Benson first joined the LPGA Tour in 1971. She lost her card after the 1975 season but regained it in July, 1976. She had hand surgery in 1977 and did not play during the 1978 season. In 1979, she collected two paychecks but it was not enough to keep her card. Posting a 311 total, she equalities for the third time at the Annual tournament in October, 1983. Benson posted her career best finish, a 10th place tie, at the 1976 Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Classic during her most successful financial season. The 1985 campaign was disappointing for Benson as she finished in the money in one of her 14 tournament starts. A solo 72nd place at the Chrysler Plymouth Classic was her season’s best performance. She played her fewest events since her inaugural season in 1971.

Runner-up finishes in the 1969 and 1970 Western Association Championships and the 1970 Southern California State Amateur were the best of her limited amateur career.
