The 15-year veteran experienced her most successful season in 1981, claiming her first LPGA title by defeating JoAnne Carner by one stroke in the Corning Classic and earning nearly $30,000 for the season. The following year she carded two career-low scores of 65 during the final round of the Nabisco Dinah Shore and the Orlando Lady Classic. Hite failed to qualify for the LPGA on her first attempt and took that opportunity to pursue golf on the Australian Tour. She returned to the States and qualified in 1974.

Amateur
Hite captured the Southern Amateur Championship on the third hole of a sudden death play-off in 1970. She also won the Southern Junior title in 1965 and 1966, as well as the South Carolina Amateur in 1966 and 1969.
