In 2016, Haru Nomura fired a final round 65 to defeat the World No. 1 Lydia Ko by three strokes.  The victory came at Nomura's 72nd event and was the first of her career. She was the first Japanese winner of the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open since Chako Higuchi captured the inaugural title in Melbourne in 1974.
