LPGA Tour rookie Dori Carter returned to the LPGA Futures Tour to try defend her title at the Pennsylvania Classic. Carter ended up finishing tied for ninth. LPGAFuturesTour.com caught up with Carter to ask how her rookie year on the LPGA Tour is going and what she's learned.
What part of your game are you working on in particular?
Right now I am working on a unique part of my game.. my confidence. It has been a big adjustment to the LPGA. I am hoping that my experience here in PA will help prepare me for the remainder my season on the LPGA Tour.
What have you learned in your Rookie year on the LPGA Tour?
There are so many things that I have learned this year. Even though the LPGA Futures Tour helped me, it was and still is quite an adjustment. I think the most important thing was that you always need to be true to yourself. You don't have to change anything about your game, or what works for you, when you transition to the LPGA. If it works on Futures, it will work on LPGA.
How has your season been going?
It has been an interesting year for me. It has taken some extra time to get used to the LPGA. However, with each week, I feel more and more comfortable out there. I am looking forward to finishing the year strong.
What has been the biggest transition from the LFT to the LPGA?
Golf wise, the transition is the same. You are still playing competitive golf, just like the LFT. There are just a few things that you have to get used to on the LPGA: full-time caddies, bigger breaks in schedule, better golf course and better food. The last two have not been a problem. :)
With seven weeks remaining and LPGA Cards on the line - What advice would you give to those in the in the Top-10 on the LPGA Futures Tour?
Well if you are in the top 10, you have played great golf already. Remember how it feels to play great golf, maybe write it down. As the year ends, treat each event as a single tournament that you want to perform your best in. Take it one tournament at a time.
<Favorite meal before the first round?
Any type of Italian.
What do you eat on the course?
I eat whatever is available. If I had a choice, trail mix and sport jelly beans.
Who are your golfing heroes?
My golfing heroes are Bobby Jones and Payne Stewart.
