Volunteers needed--Be a part of Canada's only LPGA Tour event;
CN Miracle Match to benefit Montreal Children's Hospital and Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation
April 25, 2011 - Montreal (Golf Canada) - Golf Canada and CN are pleased to announce that LPGA Tour star Paula Creamer headlines a trio of notable players that have confirmed their early intention to compete in the 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open, August 22-28 at Hillsdale Golf and Country Club in Mirabel, Que.
Creamer will be joined by fan favourite Christina Kim as well as the No. 2 ranked player on the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings, Jiyai Shin. The trio are among the early players set to challenge for the $2.25 million USD purse at Canada's National Women's Open Championship.
With the championship still four months away, CN Canadian Women's Tournament Director Sean Van Kesteren is confident that all of the world's best players will be in Montreal for the 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open.
"Together with our partners at CN, we are pleased to announce Paula Creamer, Christina Kim and Jiyai Shin as three of our early commitments for the 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open," said Van Kesteren. "Our field is one of, if not the strongest on tour and should once again feature a mix of established veterans, notable Canadians and emerging superstars that will treat Canadian fans to a tremendous golf showcase later this summer."
Creamer is a 9-time winner on the LPGA Tour including the 2010 US Women's Open. The former LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year (2005) currently sits 10th on the Rolex Women's World Golf Ranking and is a 3-time member of the US Solheim Cup Team.
Shin, currently the 2nd ranked player on the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings, is an 8-time winner on the LPGA Tour. She is a former LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year (2009) and finished tied for 2nd at the 2010 CN Canadian Women's Open.
Kim, a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour and fan favourite, currently sits 53rd on the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings. She is a 2-time member of the US Solheim Cup team and has made the cut in all five events that she has played in 2011.
The deadline for players to confirm their intention to compete at the 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open in Montreal is Tuesday, August 16, 2011.
CN MIRACLE MATCH PROGRAM TO SUPPORT CHILDREN'S CHARITIES IN THE COMMUNITY
The 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open will help to raise money for both the Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation and The Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation, the official charitable beneficiaries of the CN Miracle Match campaign.
CN Miracle Match is a national charitable initiative designed to rally communities across Canada behind a very worthy cause, supporting children's hospitals. Each year since 2006, CN and Golf Canada have raised funds to support a children's hospital by matching funds raised through various initiatives that are connected with the CN Canadian Women's Open. In the past five years, the CN Miracle Match program has raised $4.35 million for children's hospitals.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The CN Canadian Women's Open also continues to search for volunteers to fill the a number of committee positions including Scoring, Player Transportation, Caddies for the Pro-Am, Corporate Hospitality, Marshals and Volunteer Security. Each year more than 1,400 volunteers contribute to the success of the CN Canadian Women's Open.
