Hey everyone!
I am Kirby Dreher and I’m from a small town in Northern British Columbia, Canada called Fort St. John! (Check it out on a map!) For those of you reading this that may have taken a road trip up to Alaska or are planning on it in your future you will pass through my home town as it is on the Alaska Highway!
I started golfing at the age of eight. My brother Shelby and I learned how to play on a little nine-hole golf course in our hometown and we soon became hooked. We only got to play golf for three months of the year when we were on our summer break so we tried playing as much as physically possible! During the winters we both kept ourselves (and our parents) busy playing competitive hockey! I am a huge Vancouver Canucks fan too!
I started playing golf competitively in my Province when I was 12 years old, and became pretty accomplished in British Columbia and in Canada as a junior golfer. I then got a scholarship to Kent State University where I played on the golf team and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 2009! I turned professional after college and have just started my third year out on tour!
The past two years I have played the Epson Tour (Duramed/LPGA Futures Tour) and the CN Canadian Women’s Tour. I am extremely excited about this year and what opportunities it has in store for me!
I spent my winter all over the place. I went home for a while during Christmas and New Years spending time with my family and taking a little break from golf. I then spent my winter splitting up my time in Arizona and Florida working on my golf game! While in Arizona I was fortunate to play some amazing golf courses and also got to catch four or five Phoenix Coyotes games which gave me my hockey fix for a while!
Now that the season is in full swing I am the most excited about the possibility of playing in the CN Canadian Women’s Open. It is being held in my home province British Columbia this year and it would be very special for me to be able to play in Vancouver in front of all of my family, friends and fans!
Thanks for taking the time to read my first blog of the season! You can follow me on twitter @kirbydreher and also “like” my Facebook page Kirby Dreher Golf to get updated on where I am and what I am doing!
