Inbee Park Locks Up Rolex Player of the Year honors
Rolex Rankings No.1 Inbee Park made history again on Sunday when she became the first South Korean player on the LPGA Tour to win the coveted Rolex Player of the Year award. With her fourth-place finish at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, Park earned seven points to put her 39 points ahead of No. 2 Suzann Pettersen heading into this week’s season-ending CME Group Titleholders, mathematically securing her the title.

The honor caps off what has been a remarkable season for the 25-year old Park, who became only the second player in LPGA history to win the first three majors in a season and has held the No. 1 spot in the Rolex Rankings for the past 32 weeks.

Undecided Races

Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year
While Inbee Park already locked up her Rolex Player of the Year nod, two end-of-the-season awards won’t be decided until the final event of the year concludes this week in Naples. The Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year race will be a fight to the finish among three players, Caroline Masson, Moriya Jutanugarn and Ayako Uehara. Masson currently leads the race with 474 points and holds a slim 11-point margin over Jutanugarn (463). Uehara sits in third and 90 points behind Masson with 384 and would need a win this week to have a chance at the title. Points distribution for finishes are as follows:

Vare Trophy
Stacy Lewis extended her slim lead in the Vare Trophy race and improved her scoring average to 69.483 after a solid week in Mexico. Lewis finished runner-up to fellow American Lexi Thompson and recorded rounds of 72-66-67-68. She now leads Suzann Pettersen by a .104 margin and would become the first American to win the award since Beth Daniel won it in 1994.

Both Lewis and Pettersen are playing for their first Vare Trophy award, while Inbee Park, who sits in third, will try to become the first player to win in back-to-back years since Lorena Ochoa won four-consecutive years from 2006-2009.

Hey pro! Lydia Ko makes her professional debut
The wait is over. Teen sensation Lydia Ko will make her debut as a professional this week at the CME Group Titleholders.

Ko, who is already a two-time LPGA Tour winner (2012 & 2013 CN Canadian Women’s Open), has made 15 appearances in LPGA Tour events over the past two seasons and has yet to miss a cut. She recorded five top-10 finishes in 2013 including a runner-up finish at the Tour’s fifth major, The Evian Championship.

The 16-year old announced she was turning professional late last month and was granted LPGA membership a week later by Commissioner Mike Whan for the 2014 season.

Seeing Dollar Signs
With the largest winner’s check on Tour this season up for grabs this week, things may get interesting in the battle for the LPGA’s Official Money List title. Players will be battling for a $700,000 first-place payout and Park, Pettersen and Lewis will be trying to play their ways into the record books.

Park currently leads the Tour with $2,393,513 and is playing for her second-consecutive Money List title. She would become the first player to finish atop the list back-to-back years since Lorena Ochoa in 2007 and 2008.

Pettersen has been the only other player on Tour to cross the $2 million mark in season earnings ($2,284,326) and trails Park by just $109,187. This year marks only the second time in LPGA Tour history that two players have hit the $2 million milestone in one season. Lorena Ochoa ($2,592,871) and Karrie Webb ($2,090,113) both earned $2 million in the 2006 season.

Lewis would need to cap off her impressive year with a victory this week to have an opportunity to become the first American to win the money title since Betsy King in 1993.

The quest for countries to qualify for the inaugural International Crown comes to an end this week in Naples. The top-8 countries to participate in the first-of-its-kind, global match play competition will be named at the conclusion of the CME Group Titleholders.
