Over the past nine years, Cristie Kerr’s Birdies for Breast Cancer event has raised more than $2 million for cancer research and treatment.
Following Kerr’s annual celebrity golf event on Sept. 23, more than $500,000 was added to that total and will benefit the LibertyHealth Foundation at Jersey City Medical Center, home of the Cristie Kerr Women’s Health Center. A local company in Bayonne, N.J. donated an additional $250,000 to fund the expansion of Kerr’s health center.
The Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey played host to the ninth-annual Birdies for Breast Cancer Celebrity Golf Classic, which featured an 18-hole pro-am followed by a cocktail party stocked with Kerr’s own wine label, Curvature with the musical styling’s of the G.E. Smith Band, commonly known as the Saturday Night Live Band.
Each amateur group played a round of golf with an LPGA professional or tri-state area celebrity. This year’s lineup included, Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd, former New York Giants center Shaun O’Hara, New Jersey Devils defenseman Ken Daneyko, Golf Channel commentator Jerry Foltz, along with Morgan Pressel, Natalie Gulbis, Beatriz Recari, Syndee Michaels, Kathleen Ekey, Irene Cho, Sara Jane Smith, Victoria Elizabeth, Sara Brown, Nicole Hage and Veronica Felibert.
“I am so proud of my friend Cristie for her commitment to raising money and awareness for Breast Cancer,” said Gulbis. “Her event is an incredible weekend of fun, golf, great Curvature wine and delicious food at Liberty National Golf and I always look forward to being part of her event.”
Kerr established Birdies for Breast Cancer shortly after her mother, Linda, was diagnosed in 2003. Her mother is a breast cancer survivor.
