Wounded Warrior Project® Weekends, Eagles for Warriors Update

NAPLES, FL (SEPT. 7, 2014) – The field for the CME Group Tour Championship at Tiburon Golf Club, November 20th – 23rd is shaping up to be one of the strongest of the year. Led by Rolex rankings World #1, Inbee Park, the field looks to be a who’s who of the best in women’s golf.

With only three events left before to world comes to Naples, players are jockeying for position, both in the coveted Top 9 as well as a spot in the 72 player field.

The Race Ends Here. The LPGA season long point’s race will conclude at the CME Group Tour Championship. The Race started with the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic in Paradise Island, Bahamas, and will continue through the Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Banamex in Mexico. Following Ochoa’s event, the points will reset giving this year’s top performers an advantage heading into the CME Group Tour Championship.

“Sunday of the CME Group Tour Championship will be packed with action, with crowning a tournament champion and watching who will cross the finish line as winner of the Race to the CME Globe. We will also have the final check presentation for the Wounded Warrior Project® Weekends”, said Tournament Director Gail Graham. “This is a great chance for the tournament to showcase all the excitement of the LPGA’s year in the final Sunday of the 2014 season.”

Although the point reset is an advantage, it will not guarantee any player the Race to the CME Globe victory. Mathematically, the Top 9 could win the Race, but the Top Three are truly in control of their destiny – win the tournament and win the Race. In the event of a tie in points after the CME Group Tour Championship, there will be a sudden-death playoff for the $1,000,000 prize. If a player wins both the CME Group Tour Championship and the Race to the CME Globe, she will take home $1.5 million.

The season long Wounded Warrior Project® Weekends, Eagles for Wounded Warriors will also conclude Sunday at the CME Group Tour Championship. Each eagle made on weekends of LPGA events in 2014 has earned $1,000 for the initiative. To date, 266 eagles have been made, making the total money raised thus far to $266,000. During the CME Group Tour Championship, CME Group will up the amount per Eagle from $1, 000 to $5,000 for the season finale of the Wounded Warrior Project® Weekends.
