Quick Nine – Sept. 30, 2014

A quick look at this week’s Reignwood LPGA Classic, the first of six consecutive events scheduled for Asia:

Marquee pairing: Stacy Lewis, Inbee Park and Suzann Pettersen are paired together in the first two rounds. Lewis and Park are 1-2 in the Race to the CME Globe and 1-3 in the money list standing. Pettersen leads the LPGA in Greens in Regulation.
The Reignwood Pine Valley Course, named after the New Jersey course that annually leads the world’s course ratings, is a Jack Nicklaus design that opened in 2001. There is also a Jack Nicklaus II course on site. The LPGA will face another Nicklaus design, the Sky 72 Golf Club, at the LPGA KEB HanaBank Championship in two weeks in South Korea.
The Pine Valley course plays to par 73 for the LPGA and has five par 5s, including the 18th where Shanshan Feng made eagle in 2013 to beat Stacy Lewis.
The Great Wall of China is in view from some places on the Pine Valley course.
Golf Channel will televise all four rounds live – 11 p.m.-4 a.m., Wednesday through Saturday. Beijing is 12 hours ahead of the Eastern United States.
It may seem odd that the LPGA schedule has two Chinese tournaments but they’re not in consecutive weeks. However, it is 1,700 miles from this week’s site, Beijing, in northeast China, to the Oct. 23-26 Blue Bay LPGA at Hainan Island, in the far south of China.
