The Evian Championship brought the major championship season to a conclusion with a dramatic final-hole birdie by 19-year South Korean Hyo Joo Kim securing the victory in France.

Here’s a look at some trends in the majors this season:

Age bracket
Hyo Joo Kim’s victory in France was the second time this season a teenager won a major. Lexi Thompson, 19, was less than a week younger when she won the Kraft Nabisco Championship to begin the LPGA’s five major championships

A glance at the youngest major championship winners of all time, all under age 20:

Player	Tournament	Age
Morgan Pressel	2007 Kraft Nabisco Championship	18 years, 10 months, 9 days
Lexi Thompson	2014 Kraft Nabisco Championship	19 years, 1 month, 27 days
Hyo Joo Kim	2014 Evian Championship	19 years, 2 months
Yani Tseng	2008 McDonald’s LPGA Championship	19 years, 4 months, 16 days
Inbee Park	2008 U.S. Women’s Open	19 years, 11 months, 17 days

First timers
Four of the five major championship winners this season were first-time major winners. Lexi Thompson, Michelle Wie, Mo Martin and Hyo Joo Kim had never won a major before. Inbee Park has won four of the last 10 majors (three in 2013 and the Wegmans LPGA Championship this season).

Major’s best
Michelle Wie won the first Rolex Annika Major Award despite not playing in the final two majors of the season because of a finger injury. Her runner-up finish in the Kraft Nabisco Championship and victory at the U.S. Women’s Open earned enough points to outdistance her competition.

Here’s a look at the players who recorded at least two top-10s in majors this season:

Going low
Hyo Joo Kim’s first-round 61 in the Evian Championship was the lowest round ever shot in a men’s or women’s major championship. It also marked only the seventh time in 29 occurrences that the player with the low round went on to win the title that week.

Here’s a look at the LPGA low rounds, including Kim’s, and the times that a PGA Tour player went on to win after shooting a record round:

LPGA
Score	Player	Event	Finish	Noteworthy
61 (-10)	Hyo Joo Kim	2014 Evian Championship	Win	Birdied 72nd hole to beat Karrie Webb by one stroke.
62 (-10)	Minea Blomqvist	2004 Weetabix Women’s British Open	8	Finnish golfer shot 78-62 in second and third rounds.
62 (-10)	Lorena Ochoa	2006 Kraft Nabisco Championship	2	Lost in playoff to Karrie Webb after Webb holed out for eagle on the final hole of regulation.

PGA Tour
Note: 63 has been shot 26 times by 24 different players, but just six have gone on to win. They include:

U.S. Open
Johnny Miller, 1973 (Oakmont CC), final round (8-under)
Jack Nicklaus, 1980 (Baltusrol CC), first round (7-under)

British Open
Greg Norman, 1986 (Turnberry), second round (7-under)

PGA Championship (12)
Raymond Floyd, 1982 (Southern Hills CC), first round (7-under)
Tiger Woods, 2007 (Southern Hills CC), second round (7-under)
Jason Dufner, 2013 (Oak Hill CC), second round (7-under)

RTJ again in Alabama

Alabama’s two LPGA events are both played at courses on the Robert Trent Jones Sr., Golf Trail. The Airbus LPGA Classic in May is held at the Magnolia Grove Crossing Course in Mobile. This week’s tournament is in Prattville at the Capital Hill Senator Course. The Trail is a series of courses at 11 different sites totaling 468 holes. The Trail is the largest golf course construction project ever attempted and was a part of a project funded by the Retirement Systems of Alabama that started in the 1980s.

Etc.

Mika Miyazato made a hole-in-one on the 16th hole in the final round of the Evian Championship last week. It was the 25th ace of the season. The record is 37 in 1999 and 2001. … South Korean-born golfers have won five of the last six LPGA events. … The LPGA has center stage this week as the PGA Tour takes the week off before the Ryder Cup next week in Scotland. The LPGA has its last off week of the season next week before seven consecutive tournaments in Asia.
