It’s an age old golfer and commentator debate: Who has the best swing?
The pros debate it, too, and there were a number of differing answers among the players polled of just who has the best swing on the LPGA Tour. On the PGA Tour, the answers don’t typically stray very far from Adam Scott, Jason Day and Rory McIlroy, but on the LPGA Tour, the answers wildly differed.
There’s not a statistic that points anyone in the direction of the correct answer as it’s all a matter of personal preference, and what each individual player likes to see in a golf swing.
Four on the LPGA Tour came up pretty consistently, though, among both feel and mechanical players alike.
Hall-of-Famer Juli Inkster didn’t even blink before offering her response: “Na Yeon Choi.”
Choi, the two-time winner in 2015, has one of the smoothest rhythms on Tour and was mentioned by a number of players as one of their favorite swings on Tour. Another player frequently mentioned in the conversation was the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia winner.
“I like Jessica Korda’s swing A LOT!” Jaye Marie Green said.
There’s a trend these days with swings – the younger, the better. At least in terms of aesthetics. The instruction’s better these days, fitness training specifically for golf is rampant, and golf’s all over the TV, making the homemade swings of yesteryear not nearly as widespread among the Tour. However, that’s not to say there’s no individuality or swings that stand out. Mi Hyang Lee, for example, didn’t even need a second to think about it when asked who her favorite swing was on Tour.
“Hyo Joo Kim!” Lee said. “Her swing is awesome.”
All the swings listed above are basically textbook, but when it comes to the swing that’s mentioned most by players among the Tour’s best swings, well, that honor goes to the Tour’s young Aussie.
“There’s a lot of swings I really like but I think I’d go with Minjee Lee, that’s a really good one,” Jane Park said.
Longtime LPGA beat reporter, Steve Eubanks, of Global Golf Post might have synopsized the feelings of Lee’s swing best.
“Minjee might have the best golf swing I’ve ever seen,” Eubanks said.
Among a Tour full of great ones.
