First round leader Karine Icher didn’t appear to have any trouble sleeping on the lead.
Midway through round two, Icher continues to hold the top spot on the leaderboard at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open. She led by as many as two strokes before finishing her day at 9-under par with a 2-under par 70, one-stroke ahead of Xi Yu Lin. Since turning professional in 2003, Icher has yet to win on the LPGA Tour.
An ace at the par 3, 7th hole helped lift Lin to 8-under par and solo second on the leaderboard. The ace was the first for Lin in tournament play and part of a second round 66 that matched Lin’s low round of the season. The great round came as a surprise even to Lin who wasn’t hitting the ball particularly well during her morning warm up.
“It's very solid round today, because last week, my long game wasn't really good,” said Lin after her round Friday. “And today, well, even when I was in the driving range, I was hitting the ball like everywhere. So I was just telling myself, just be patient today, and I'm so glad. I almost holed every birdie chance I could have. Well, I had some bad shot, but I keep them on green and two-putted. So, yeah, pretty satisfied.”
Azahara Munoz carded a 5-under 67 with most of her birdies coming on the front nine where she went out in 30. Munoz is tied for third at 6-under par with Stacy Lewis who posted a 2-under par, 70 in round two. Lewis has two top-6 finishes in this event, including T-2 in 2011.
World No.2 Lydia Ko and two-time champion of the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open teed off in the afternoon wave and is currently even through four holes and 5-under par for the tournament.
