COWS, COFFEE AND DONUTS, OH MY!

If you have not watched Shanshan Feng lately, you should start. If not for the golf, definitely for the pants. It is hard to miss Shanshan Feng’s colorfully decorated pants. Today, Feng wore red and black flower printed pants and wore pants with coffee mugs and donuts on them last tournament. But neither of those pairs are the favorite that she dons on the first tee at tournaments.

“I have a few more,” said Feng. “I think I like my cow pants that I wore yesterday. I do have the cow pants and cow shorts and cow skirt, so…I have everything.”

Jang said you got to have confidence to wear the type of pants she rocks on the course, and she’s feeling plenty on the course this week with a 4-under-67 Friday that moved her into a tie for third at 6-under-par.

When Feng is not looking for the next best pants to wear, she finds the Nintendo Wii pretty entertaining - a discovery she just found this week at her housing for the week with two sports so far standing out.

“Soccer and archery,” Feng said. “I found out it’s a good thing because usually after I eat I like to go straight to bed, like lie on the bed. Actually if I can play the Wii games right after I eat, so then I don’t, then it helps me to maybe lose a little weight.” (Laughter.)

MOMENTUM FOR THE WEEKEND

Stacy Lewis finished her second round with two birdies on the last two holes to finish 3-under, though she is still not overly pleased about her play she has some momentum for this weekend.

“Yeah, I hope so. You know, I feel like the way I’m playing if I can just get a few of those putts to go in I can shoot a low number.”

For some players, watching the leaderboard can add a lot of unnecessary pressure. Lewis, on the other hand, always watches the leaderboard to see where she stands. The trick is to think about how you can be more aggressive and make more birdies rather than get worried about missing a cut.

“Yeah, I knew all day that I was close,” said Lewis. “I kept looking at the board thinking if I could get to 3 or 4 under I was right in it. I watch leaderboards, so it was scrolling through there occasionally. You try not to think about that. I was hitting good enough shots to make birdies, so I wasn’t really thinking about going too much the other direction.”

Lewis knows she is right in it and it all it takes is low numbers. The good thing is she has two more days to do it.

TWO LOCK UP SPOTS IN THE RICOH WOMEN’S BRITISH OPEN

Although second-round play didn’t finish Friday, Dewi Claire Schreefel and Sarah Kemp both locked up spots in the RICOH Women’s British Open with a two-day total of 136. The top five scores through two days of players that weren’t currently already in the field at the RICOH Women’s British Open earned their way into the field this week and Kemp and Schreefel both locked up at least two of the five spots.

The other three spots still won’t be decided until the conclusion of the second round - and even then may go into the third round to break a potential tiebreaker - but Kemp and Schreefel have at least locked up spots.

“When we were done my caddie was like, ‘I think you qualified for the British.’ I was like ‘Oh, I totally forgot about that,’” Schreefel said. “Obviously the weeks before you know that this is the last chance to qualify. So I knew about it, but I didn’t really think about it that much.”
