When you have inspiration on your side, there’s a lot to be said for success. That’s the mindset Inbee Park, the top-ranked player in the Race to the CME Globe, has as the LPGA begins the second half of the 2015 season.

Park has won three of the current five LPGA majors during her career. But she lacks the Ricoh Women’s British Open and The Evian Championship, the two remaining major championships on the 2015 docket, to complete the career Grand Slam. She led the Ricoh Women’s British at Royal Liverpool after three rounds in 2014, but shot a final-round 77 to place fourth, her fourth top-10 in the event in five years. Park has won the Evian, but it came in 2012, the year before the French event was elevated to major championship status.

The reason this is pertinent? Park leads the CME Globe race by 594 points over Lydia Ko, a margin that will give her in first place no matter how she plays this week at the Marathon Classic. She earned the large advantage by placing third at last week’s U.S. Women’s Open.

“My ball-striking is really getting there, getting to where I really want it to,” Park said after the final round of the U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club. “But the putting is just not getting there easily. I definitely did not putt well yesterday and today. I hit the ball great the last two days, but I left it out there. I've got to work on my putting a little bit more.”

First place provides 500 points, but majors give 25 percent more, with 625 going to the winner of the Ricoh Women’s British Open July 30-Aug. 2 and The Evian Sept. 10-13.

Seventeen tournaments have been completed in the second season of the Race to the CME Globe. The top three seeds entering November’s CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Fla., can win it all. The top nine have a chance to capture the season-long title with a victory and help from those ahead of them.

The Race to the CME Globe is a season-long points competition in which LPGA Members accumulate points in every Official LPGA Tournament. At the end of the season, the winning player will be named the “Race to the CME Globe Champion.” The competition began at the Coates Golf Championship, continues through the Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Banamex in Mexico and concludes with a points reset for the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida the week before Thanksgiving.
