On the first official day of practice for both teams at this week’s Solheim Cup venue, Golf Club St. Leon-Rot, there was one general consensus from all of the players on how the course will play -- and that’s long.

“Somebody with length has a huge advantage on this golf course,” said U.S. team member Stacy Lewis.

Following some rain on Monday, the course was wet and the cooler weather factored into the course playing even longer than expected. However, long is definitely not a bad thing for either team as they both feature a number of players who can bomb it off the tee.

“As a team we quite like it long,” said European team member Mel Reid. “It's challenging, but it's very fair.”

But this isn’t just a bomber’s course. Suzann Pettersen, who is playing in her eighth Solheim Cup, described some of the holes as having “teeth.” Players also described the rough as thick so accuracy off the tee will be key. All in all, it appears to be the kind of golf course that should provide some great drama in a match-play format.

“It’s going to be a good test,” Lewis said. “Wherever you hit it, it's going to stay. So you can hit some good shots in there and hit it in there pretty close. But it's going to be pretty good, I think, for match play.”
