Two years ago the European Solheim Cup Team pulled off a victory at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colorado to retain the Cup. The rain delayed Friday’s foursomes and four-ball matches at St Leon-Rot Golf Club were tight matches with both teams walking away with points on the board. Two matches were suspended due to darkness.

After capturing two points in the Friday morning foursomes, Team Europe won two more matches in the afternoon four-ball session to take a 4-2 lead over the U.S. Team with two matches to be completed heading into Saturday’s second day of play.

Captain’s pick Paula Creamer, provided a lift in the first morning match, paired with Morgan Pressel in foursomes they held off a run from the European team of Suzann Pettersen and Anna Nordqvist and ended the match on the 16th hole, 3&2. Pressel and Creamer were paired again for the afternoon four-ball. The American team made a late charge with a birdie putt only to be answered with a birdie putt by the European team of Nordqvist and Caroline Hedwall ended the match on the 15th hole, 4&3.

The Americans couldn’t take advantage in the first two matches of the afternoon however they still have the opportunity to earn critical points with the conclusion of the final two matches. The third match of the afternoon shifted in the way of the Europeans with an eagle on the 17th hole by Carlota Ciganda. The all-squared match will conclude tomorrow morning at 7:45 a.m. local time.

Sandra Gal and Caroline Masson were greeted throughout the day with huge roars from their fellow Germans. In the morning foursome Gal was paired with Catriona Matthew and the Europeans closed the match out on the 16th with a 3&2 victory for the second point of the morning. The afternoon four-ball and final match of the day Gal, paired with Masson, was suspended due to darkness. All players agreed to finish the match in the morning, Gal and Masson will sleep on a 1-up lead over Gerina Piller and Brittany Lang.

Sandra Gal said of playing in front of her home crowd, "It was more than I expected. It was just electrifying. It's just so cool to have their joy and their enthusiasm catch on us. I think we played better because of them."
