Good Take Aways

Lexi Thompson found solace in coming up short for her second major title with a solid overall week and a nearly untouchable performance by Lydia Ko.

“I played well enough in my first nine,” said Thompson. “I struggled on the back. I kind of lost my tee ball and didn’t hit good iron shots, and it’s kind of hard to beat somebody that shoots 63. I mean, she played amazing. She deserves it, and I mean, she ball-struck the heck out of this golf course and putted it really well. You can’t get much better than that.”

Thompson won’t have much time to let a loss get to her as she’ll be heading up to Germany this evening to play in her second Solheim Cup next week. She said she’ll ride the wave of momentum of good play to help Team USA avenge two-consecutive losses to the Europeans.

“Yeah, definitely,” said Thompson. “Going to take a lot of positives out of this week going into next week, representing my country. I’m really, really excited to play in Solheim. This is definitely a win I want to have under my belt, the Evian Championship, but a lot of years to come. I’ll keep on coming back. But Lydia deserves it. She played amazing.”

Live Young

Tournament organizers used Lydia Ko as the face of the marketing campaign this year and used her image on bus stops, dinner place mats, billboards among other signage and Evian’s slogan is “Live Young.” Ko said yesterday that she thinks they only used her picture because she was wearing their trademark pink in the photo, but it might have been destiny that Ko would break the youngest major winner record in her final try at the designation.

“You know, yesterday during my press conference, I said, winning at any age is amazing at a major, and all players want to peak at their best at a major,” said Ko. “To say that I’m the youngest in history for now, it’s so cool. But the big thing for me is I won’t be asked that question. But even if I didn’t win today, I think I would have been really relieved because I’d be too old for it by the time of ANA.”

The question has followed the 18-year old around longer than it should have on when she would win a major and now that monkey is off her back. Only time will tell on how many more records she will break in her bright future.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s great, and it’s amazing that I can leave my name I guess a little bit in the history books,” said Ko.

Park Honored At The Rolex ANNIKA Major Award Ceremony

The Rolex ANNIKA Major Award recognizes the player who, during a current LPGA Tour season, had the most outstanding record in all five major championships. Points are awarded at all five major championships to competitors who finish among the top-10 and ties. To take home the award, a player must also win at least one of the five majors.

Inbee Park clinched the 2015 Rolex ANNIKA Major Award with her victory at the RICOH Women’s British Open Championship last month, where she also completed the Career Grand Slam. It was Park’s second major win of the season and seventh of her career. No other player could surpass Park’s total of 138 points through the first four majors. She finished T8 this week at the Evian Championship and added 6 points in the final major for a 144 final point total.

Park was presented the award in a ceremony at The Evian Championship on Saturday evening.

Show Me The Eagles

12 eagles were made this weekend at the Evian Championship and players raised $12,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project as part of the season-long Wounded Warrior Project® Weekends.

In all there have been 209 eagles recorded so far in 2015, raising $209,000.
