Over the next several weeks LPGA.com will take a look back at Epson Tour players landing inside the top-10. This edition of the 'Meet the Epson Tour Grads" features Wei-Ling Hsu. She had four top finishes including a win at the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic. She finished ranked No. 6 in the Volvik Race for the Card and earned LPGA membership for the 2015 season.
There was an interesting split amongst the top players on the Epson Tour in 2014. There were veterans that broke through like Min Seo Kwak, Kendall Dye and Mallory Blackwelder and then there were teenagers like Cindy Feng, Min Lee and Wei-Ling Hsu.
Hsu started playing on the Epson Tour in 2013 and made an indelible mark in year one. She won the Credit Union Classic in Albany and finished 15th on the Volvik Race for the Card money list.
Entering 2014, she was a likely candidate to fit into the top 10. Hsu basically stamped her ticket to the LPGA Tour when she won the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic, which provided the biggest purse ($200,000) and winner’s payout ($30,000) in Epson Tour history.
Hsu had a few more strong finishes, but only needed 13 starts to earn her card. She didn’t play in the Epson Tour Championship due to a sponsor obligation back in Taiwan, but still comfortably earned her card.
Hsu is quite popular back in Taiwan. She was featured on the September 2014 issue of OneGolf Magazine (full five page spread). Her face was also on ATM machines in Taiwan through a sponsorship with a bank.
The now 20-year-old is a free spirit who can’t live without chocolate and music.
She’s ready to join Taiwanese golfers Yani Tseng and Min Lee on the LPGA.
