Over the next several weeks LPGA.com will take a look back at Epson Tour players landing inside the top-10. This edition of the 'Meet the Epson Tour Grads" features Demi Runas. She had four top finishes including a tie for second at the Epson Tour Championship. She finished ranked No. 9 in the Volvik Race for the Card and earned LPGA membership for the 2015 season.
Demi Runas was a bonafide star at the University of California Davis. She was named Big West Player of the Year as a sophomore, junior and senior. She was also a four-time First-Team All Big West performer.
The Torrance, Calif. native advanced to LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament in 2013 and earned Epson Tour membership for 2014.
In her rookie season, she posted a pair of second place finishes and two third place finishes and an additional top 10. She made 17 cuts in 20 starts and proved consistent for nearly the entire season.
Heading into the Epson Tour Championship, Runas was on the outside looking in. She was 15th on the Volvik Race for the Card money list and needed a special result. After three rounds, she was in a tie for 21st, which was not going to be good enough to get her LPGA Tour card.
Runas carded a 7-under 65 in the final round of the season to get into a tie for the lead, which ultimately guaranteed her a spot in the top 10. She fell short in the playoff to Marita Engzelius, but jumped six spots to earn her Tour card.
Runas has always been a winner. She guided Torrance High School to three state championships and one runner-up finish.
She grew up playing junior golf with LPGA Tour winner Lizette Salas, so she’ll have guidance when she steps foot on the big stage for the first time.
Runas is as focused on the course as she is off. She credits taking up Yoga and becoming a vegetarian as keys to her success.
