SEEING DOUBLE
The LPGA is not even halfway through season and three players have already have multiple victories this year. Rookie Sei Young Kim was the first player with multiple wins this year, clinching both of her titles in thrilling fashion; with a playoff at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic and another playoff against World No. 2 Inbee Park at the LOTTE Championship presented by HERSHEY.
World No. 1, Lydia Ko began 2015 with a bang, winning both the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open in February and the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic for the second year in a row. Ko has five additional top-10 finishes this year and the 18-year old has earned $915,051 leading Inbee Park on the official money list in 2015.
Two weeks ago, world No. 2 Inbee Park joined the multiple-win club with a three-stroke victory at the Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout presented by JTBC. Park’s first win of 2015 came at HSBC Women’s Champions when she outlasted Lydia Ko and Stacy Lewis.
SOLHEIM CUP WATCH
The Solheim Cup is four months away, but competition for the final spots on both teams is heating up. Golf Club St. Leon Rot in Heidelberg, Germany will play host to the event in September.
The cut-off event for American players to earn points will be at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open August 20-23 in Vancouver. Players started earning points at the 2013 CN Canadian Women’s Open and will receive heavier weighted points at LPGA events in 2015 and double points at the Tour’s five major championships. Members of Team USA are decided by the top-8 U.S. Solheim Cup Points earners, two players from the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings not already qualified by points, and two captain’s picks.
