RYU RELEASES THE PRESSURE

So Yeon Ryu has yet to miss a cut in her 10 events this season, and currently sits in fourth place (-6) at the Kingsmill Championship heading into the weekend. During the 2014 season, Ryu had 15 top-10 finishes including a win at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open, but has only finished in the top-10 twice in 2015. Ryu has decided to not think so much about the result, but relax and play her game.

“I kind of think myself I have to finish top-10 every weeks, that it makes me not really enjoy the golf. Just think about the result,” Ryu said. “So now I more enjoy the game and more enjoy the golf and really fun to watch all the creative shot.”

After shooting a first-round 67 and second-round 69, Ryu sits just three shots off the lead heading into the weekend. Ryu will look to keep the same mentality and not overthink missed opportunities and her place on the leaderboard.

“Just be kind to me,” Ryu said. “Even when I hit the missed shot, Okay, I hit the missed shot. I accept it. So what’s going to do next?

MIND OVER MATTER

Friday’s second-round faired well for Lexi Thompson (-4) and Suzann Pettersen (-5) as they moved up the leaderboard to put themselves in contention heading into the weekend. For Thompson, she has been working with John Denney in South Florida this year to improve her mental game and has noticed the difference.

“I committed more to my lines out there and was a bit more confident over the ball,” Thompson said. “Especially putting, too. I think that’s what golf is all about: going into every shot with a positive mindset.”

14-time LPGA Champion, Suzann Pettersen, has been battling injury since withdrawing from the LOTTE Championship in early April and is depending on her mental game to keep her in contention headed into the weekend.

“I haven’t lost it mentally so far,” Pettersen said. “If I’m like balancing on the line of just kind of going my way or the other way, it feels like I’ve kind of lost it mentally in the past.”
