Ko Headlines Field
14 of the top 20 players in the Rolex Rankings will tee it up in Hawaii for the LOTTE Championship Presented by Hershey. World No. 1 Lydia Ko headlines the field, coming off back-to-back wins on Tour. Ko’s most recently became the youngest player to win two majors with her victory at the ANA Inspiration
The top-ranked Americans, No.3 Lexi Thompson and No. 14 Cristie Kerr are also in the field this week in Hawaii.
Kim Back to Defend
Already this season, Sei Young Kim has three top-10s including a win at the JTBC Founders Cup and is back this week looking to defend and pick up her second win of the year. Kim won the 2015 LOTTE Championship Presented by Hershey in a playoff over Rolex Rankings No. 2 Inbee Park. With an 8-iron from 154-yards, Kim holed her approach shot on the first playoff hole to capture her second victory of 2015.
Since winning in Phoenix, Kim has a T24 finish at the Kia Classic and a missed cut at the ANA Inspiration.
Past Champions
All four players who have won in Hawaii will tee it up this week. In addition to defending champion Sei Young Kim, also, in the field this week is Michelle Wie, who hoisted the trophy in her home state in 2014.
Also, in the field, this week is Suzann Pettersen, who captured the title in 2013 and former world No. 1 Ai Miyazato, who won in 2012.
Welcome To the Aloha State!
World No.6 In Gee Chun and No.7 Brooke Henderson will make their first appearance in Hawaii this week. Both are coming off top-10 finishes at the ANA Inspiration and looking for their first win of 2016.
ANA Inspiration co-runner-up Chun has teed it up three times this season and has finished in the top-3 in each of the events. Henderson is also having a strong year, in seven starts she has finished in the top 10 in six out of seven events.
Chun and Henderson are currently ranked one and two in the Top 10 finishes percentage respectively.
Rookie Watch
The 2016 rookie class will be well-represented this week with 24 of 29 in the field this week in the Hawaii; which includes 2015 U.S. Women’s Open champion In Gee Chun, 2015 Junior Solheim Cup team member Megan Khang, Australian native and winner on the Ladies European Tour Su Oh, three-time Epson Tour winner, Epson Tour Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in 2015 and former Curtis Cup member Annie Park
