The 2006 rookie has not yet held the second-round lead in her career and is in search of her first victory on the LPGA Tour.
“I feel a little bit nervous to be honest, I have never been in this position before,” said Smith. “So even a couple times today I was a little nervous, but I was happy with the way that I handled it. Hopefully I can just keep doing what I have been doing and see what happens.”
Lopez, fan favorite and playing on her home course here at the Club de Golf México, shot a second-round 65 with one eagle and 6 birdies.
“A very special round, being here playing for my country, on my hometown, on my home course it’s just very special,” said Lopez. “ I had a lot of people supporting me, either if I play good or if I play bad. So it is just very special to be here, I feel very blessed, I had a tremendous year and I am just enjoying the rest of the season, I have two more days to make good rounds and just prove myself what I can do.”
