On To England

Five players have earned their way into the 2016 RICOH Women’s British Open following the finish of the third round at the Cambia Portland Classic Presented by JTBC. Colombian Mariajo Uribe and American Lee Lopez qualified after the second round of play with the two lowest 36-hole scores of qualifier participants. Six players were tied for the final three spots, and Saturday’s round served as a tie-breaker for the remaining openings in the field.

heyenne Woods (69), Briana Do (70) and Kelly Shon (72) captured the remaining spots in the field and will tee it up at Woburn Golf & Country Club in Milton Keynes, England in the season’s fourth major later this month.

“It was definitely a goal of mine to go there for two weeks, because I already have my flight booked and I don’t want to change it,” Woods said with a laugh. “And it’s also my birthday that week. I think that that would be awesome to be able to be over there for two weeks straight and hopefully play good golf on my birthday.”

Lewis Loves Portland

Stacy Lewis is playing in this event for the seventh time in her career this week. With a record featuring two top-10s including a runner-up finish in 2013, Lewis is looking to add to her success in Portland that dates back to her days playing as an amateur. Lewis reached the semifinals of the 2006 U.S. Women’s Amateur played at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, the site of the Safeway Classic from 2009-2012.

“I’ve always enjoyed coming to this area,” said Lewis. “I played well at the U.S. Am out at Pumpkin Ridge. I’ve always kind of had good vibes coming back here.”

Lewis shot a third round 67 and sits six shots back of the lead in a tie for sixth place alongside Cheyenne Woods and Carlota Ciganda.

Cheyenne Woods is looking for her first career top-10 finish this week. Her previous best finish was T23 at the 2014 Handa Australian Open.
Stacy Lewis is looking for her first win since the 2014 Walmart NW Arkansas Championship and her fifth top-10 finish of 2016.
Suzann Pettersen is four strokes back of leader Brooke Henderson heading into the final round. In her 2011 win at the Cambia Portland Classic, Pettersen overcame a nine shot deficit (Na Yeon Choi) on the final day to win.

“I don’t mind it. When I won here I was chasing. I don’t know if I was two or three back, but I can make a lot of birdies. Especially out here I know I can make a lot of birdies, so it’s just a matter of getting a few to fall early and kind of get into a nice little rhythm.”
