Austin Ernst jumped to the top of the leaderboard Saturday afternoon at the Citibanamex Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Aeromexico and Delta. Ernst turned in a bogey-free scorecard and is looking to pick up her second career win and first in 2016 at Club de Golf México. She had five birdies on the day to finish at 5-under, hitting 11 of 14 fairways.
At 10-under par, Ernst holds a one-stroke lead ahead of round two leader, Sarah Jane Smith and Carlota Ciganda.
“I have been hitting my drive pretty well, and I have had a lot of good looks at birdie this week. Today I still made 5 birdies so I have just made it very easy when I haven’t been sure about myself,” said Ernst. “There’s still a lot of good players right there, but I have been playing very well this week. I have been hitting the ball well and putting wise, I have felt like I hadn’t made a ton putts but every putt that I have missed, it seems like the speed is really good or the line is barely off.”
Ernst became a Rolex First-Time Winner at the 2014 Portland Classic Presented by Cambia Health Solutions. She has three top 10s this season with season-best was a tie for fourth at the Cambia Portland Classic.
