Mi Jung Hur and Brooke Henderson share the second-round lead of the Reignwood LPGA Classic and sit atop the leaderboard at 14-under par. The two lead Shanshan Feng (65) by one shot.
Hur had seven birdies and two eagles on the par 5 16th and 18th holes in her round of 63, the low round of the tournament so far, while Henderson had eight birdies en route to a round of 66.
“I mean, everything was working really good for the day,” said Hur. “Yeah, I made one eagle 16 which was chipped it in near the green. Last hole I had a 230 yards to the flag and I just hit a 3-wood. Actually, I aim a little more left of it, but just turn on the line and got a luck and made eagle.”
Hur, with three top 10s on the season, matched her career low, is looking to pick up her first win of the season and her first since the 2014 Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic.
Henderson, who is already a two-time winner on Tour this season, said she was enjoying her first experience in China, despite picking up a bogey Henderson finished with a 66 and a share of the lead.
“Yeah, today was awesome. I got off to an awesome start starting with a birdie on the 1st hole, par'd the 2nd, and then had quite a few birdies in a row. I felt like today could be a good day, which is always a good feeling to have," said Henderson. "One bogey, which kind of set me back a little bit, but then some more birdies on the back nine to get to 7-under, and 14-under par, which is really nice, especially only two days into the championship and I know I have two more days left.”
Four-time winner and 2014 champion Shanshan Feng is in the hunt heading into the weekend after rounds of 68-65. Feng has been playing well and says that her ball striking has been her strength. With a solid round today making nine birdies, she sits in solo third with a 13-under par and one shot back.
” I made quite a few short putts for birdies and also a couple longer putts for birdies, too,” said Feng.
Defending champion, Mirim Lee, sits four shots back alone in fifth at 10-under par.
