The 2016 LPGA Tour season enters its last leg leading up to the season finale in Naples, Florida

NAPLES, Fla. (September 20, 2016) – With only seven tournaments remaining on the 2016 LPGA Tour regular season, the Race to the CME Globe enters its final stretch before returning to Naples for the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, November 15 - 20 at Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Naples.

The LPGA’s fifth and final major championship concluded this past weekend as the ladies battled in Evian-les-Baines, France at The Evian Championship. With a record-breaking 21-under par, In Gee Chun captured her second major championship win and joins Lydia Ko, Brooke Henderson, Brittany Lang and Ariya Jutanugarn as 2016 major winners. The LPGA Tour rookie carded a final round 69 to prevail by four-strokes setting the lowest winning total in professional golf major championship history. Jason Day (2015 PGA Championship) and Henrik Stenson (2016 Open Championship) hold the men’s major record of 20-under par, while five different players held the previous LPGA Tour record of 19-under par.

After asked what playing her way into the record books meant to her, Chun stated “I don’t know because I feel like I’m dreaming now.” Chun also joins fellow South Korean Se Ri Pak as the only two players on the LPGA Tour to win their first two titles at major championships.

After capturing The Evian Championship trophy, Chun received 625 points towards her Race to the CME Globe standings. Non-major championship winners receive 500 points towards their standings. With this victory, Chun jumps five spots in the Race to the CME Globe rankings to No.5. Heading into the fall Asian swing, the Race to the CME Globe top five rankings are as follows: Lydia Ko, Ariya Jutanugarn, Brooke Henderson, Sei Young Kim and In Gee Chun.

This year’s stretch in Asia consists of six tournaments in six weeks beginning in Beijing, China at the Reginwood LPGA Classic, September 29 - October 2. The Tour will then travel to Taiwan, South Korea, Hainan Island, Malaysia and Japan prior to landing in Mexico City for the final stop of the regular season. Seven regular-season tournaments stand between the CME Group Tour Championship and its qualifying field list. As the Race to the CME Globe points standings reset prior to the season-ending event in Naples, LPGA Tour professionals head towards their final stretch in hopes of qualifying for the Tour Championship and a shot at the $1 million Race to the CME Globe payout.
