PALM SPRINGS: It’s been a fun week for Caroline Masson.
The German shot a 4-under par, 68 on moving day to sit 3-shots back of Lexi Thompson heading into the final round of the ANA Inspiration.
“I’m in a great spot I think, you know like I said I just want to stay relaxed out there, have fun I really enjoy this golf course I mean every time I come here I’m super happy, and I just like it, so that doesn’t have to change for tomorrow, so I just want to be comfortable in that position and just try to shoot the best round I can shoot,” Masson told LPGA.com.
Masson has played some solid golf this week in Palm Springs and says she’s having fun on a course that fits her eye. She’s heading into Sunday feeling confident and relaxed.
“Yeah, you know it’s just about staying relaxed out there but obviously, you’ve got to play well,” Masson explained. “I mean this golf course can get you when you don’t hit your spot and especially when you don’t hit it in the fairway. I’m just doing a good job hitting it in the fairway and hitting the right shots at the right time, and you know I feel like I’m putting well, I have had a lot of birdie chances I make some I miss some, but overall I’m just really comfortable out there.”
The key to Masson’s success this week has been her accuracy, avoiding a penal rough that has had players talking. This season she ranks 13th in driving accuracy and 8th in GIR, an advantage on a tough test like Mission Hills.
“Yeah it was just solid I didn’t make any mistakes you know there was only one green I really missed today, and I was in the bunker, and I got it up and down, so that’s a good feeling if you have birdie chance pretty much every hole, you know you miss the one and you can get it up and down because a lot of times you feel like you have a lot of chances then you don’t make them and you miss one green, you make bogey, so it felt good to do that and you know just a really solid overall.”
Masson is paired with Michelle Wie in the final round. The duo will tee off at 1:31 p.m.
