Oh, Ace!

Su Oh’s first Tournament in Korea just became unforgettable.

Saturday, the 2016 rookie made her first hole-in-one in a professional event at the par three, 17^th hole at Sky 72 Golf Club’s Ocean Course. The hole played 144 yards in round three, a distance that put Oh between clubs.

“We weren't sure whether to pitch it with a good seven or eight because that green has been releasing so much. We just thought we would hit a really good eight and just go a little bit right and see what happens,” Oh said after her round. “Yeah, it took a bounce left. I was like, ‘Oh, it looks pretty good.’ Then there was just like a massive roar. Not massive, but there were a few people around. Yeah, we couldn't quite see because it wasn't very clear today, but by the sound of it I was like, I celebrated, then after I was like, Well, I hope it went in now, because would've been kind of awkward if it wasn't.”

It was in for the Australian’s sixth hole-in-one and first ace in five years.

“I've actually never played golf in Korea, so this is my very first time playing, first time to a golf course actually in Korea,” the Olympian told the media. “So that was a little different. I think on the first day I was a little nervous and I wasn't sure what to expect so I didn't play very good. Now I feel pretty good.”

Oh carded a five-under par, 67 to match the low round of the day and sits at one-under par for the championship.

Leaderboard to Lessons

54-hole leader Alison Lee has a welcome distraction from thinking about trying to win her first LPGA Tour event on Sunday at the LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship. She’ll be spending Saturday evening playing catch up on the classes she’s taking at UCLA as she plans to graduate in June of 2017.

“Literally as soon as I leave the golf course and I go straight back to my hotel and hit the books,” Lee told the media. “I haven't been having dinner with my friends this week. Even my family members this week I haven't had time to really spend quality time with them because I've been a little behind on school work because this whole week has been really hectic.”

Lee says she’s currently behind in her reading for every class as she continues to balance her studies at UCLA along with a full-time playing schedule on the LPGA Tour in pursuit of a degree in Communications.

“Like I said, main thing I want people to know -- a lot of people don't know I am still in school and attending UCLA, and actually taking classes on campus. It angered me a little bit the other day about a tweet saying, Oh, it's so amazing how you're in school and playing golf at the same time. Good thing UCLA is easy,” Lee told the media. “I kind of laughed to myself. I was like, UCLA is not easy. People just think that I'm just in school and golf and it's like nothing, but it is really hard. I want people to know how much hard work I'm putting into everything. It's not like I'm fooling around and not studying.”

Other than the fact that she’s a professional athlete traveling the world, she’s very much the typical college student who has joined a sorority, doesn’t take classes on Friday’s and makes sure to attend as many football games as her schedule allows.

“We have a lot of sorority stuff when I get back home, too. We have big, little reveal on Thursday where I get my little sis. Then we have presents, which is like a ceremony we do for our little and we have some date parties coming up,” Lee explained. “I'm going to every football game. I haven't missed any home games yet and I don't think I will, which is awesome.”

UCLA’s next home game is October 22nd against Utah while the Tour is at the Blue Bay LPGA. Lee is not in the field.
