7 Danielle Kang vs. 2 Sei Young Kim
Two-time U.S. Women’s Amateur champion Danielle Kang showed exactly why she owns that title on Thursday when she defeated Su Oh 7&6. The No. 7 seed made eight birdies in 11 holes to win the match over the No. 10 seed. Her victory was the largest margin of victory in the round of 64. Friday, Kang will face No. 2 seed in the Se Ri Pak bracket, Sei Young Kim, who defeated No. 15 seed Maude-Aimee Leblanc 3&1 to advance to the round of 32. The pair tee off at 8:20 a.m. Tee times have been moved up for the Round of 32 due to inclement weather expected in Mexico City.
Juli Inkster Bracket
9 Michelle Wie vs. 16 Laura Gonzalez Escallon
In the biggest upset of day one, No. 16 seed and 2017 rookie Laura Gonzalez Escallon defeated No. 1 seed in the Juli Inkster bracket, In Gee Chun. Escallon was the first to take the lead in the match at the seventh hole, and despite back to back birdies from Chun was able to re-take the match with three birdies of her own to defeat the two-time major champion 2 & 1. The world’s 270th ranked player will face Michelle Wie on Friday. Wie holds the No. 9 seed and defeated No. 8 Lizette Salas 6 & 5 to advance to the round of 32. Wie has an impressive record when it comes to amateur golf – she became the youngest to compete at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links championship at just 10 years of age back in 2000 and then went on to win the 2003 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links, where she finished runner-up in 2004. Wie won Lorena Ochoa's event in 2009 before it moved to its current venue.

1 Ariya Jutanugarn vs. 8 Moriya Jutanugarn
Sisters Ariya Jutanugarn and Moriya Jutanugarn will square off in the Round of 32 at the Lorena Ochoa match Play. Friday, Ariya took a commanding lead over Amy Anderson and never let up, hitting driver for the first time all season en route to a 5 & 4 victory over Anderson. Moriya, the 2011 runner-up at the U.S. Women’s Amateur, made four birdies in her first five holes to take the early lead and eventual victory of Alena Sharp, winning 2 & 1.
The sisters will meet on Friday at 9:20 a.m.
Lorena Ochoa Bracket
1 Lydia Ko vs. 9 Jennifer Song
Two former champions of the U.S. Women’s Amateur will square off Friday in Mexico City. Lydia Ko, the 2012 champion and No. 1 seed in the Lorena Ochoa Bracket faces No. 9 seed and 2009 champion Jennifer Song. Song went on to win the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship that same year, becoming just the second player to accomplish the feat. Ko defeated sponsor invite and Mexico native Ana Menendez 3&2 to advance to the round of 32. Song defeated Mi Hyang Lee with six birdies on Thursday to close out the match 3&2. The pair tees off at 10:00 a.m.
