Stacy Lewis, who has 12 LPGA titles and counting, is considered one of the great female athletes, not just golfers, to come out of the University of Arkansas. Since graduating in 2008, she has remained very closely connected to Razorback Nation.
Just before Thanksgiving, she was asked to serve on a seven-person committee to help Chancellor Joseph Steinmetz find a new athletic director at Arkansas.
“It’s an honor to be asked to serve on this committee and I feel lucky to have stayed connected to my alma mater in many ways, including staying close to the golf program and following the football team and many other sports,” Lewis told LPGA.com. “I will say that I’ll also be relieved when this is over in a few weeks.”
Lewis will be part of a critical hire at Arkansas, which is an athletic department in major transition, especially after recently firing their head football coach Brett Bielema.
Current Razorbacks on Tour like Gaby Lopez and Emily Tubert can attest to how passionate Lewis is about her alma mater.
Lewis is also no stranger to serving on committees. She served on the KPMG advisory council to guide the first leadership summit and has been part of the LPGA’s P-O-D (Peer-Onsite-Distance) program to help rookies. She also has been part of the LPGA’s Player Communication Committee and the LPGA’s Player Advisory Group. Additionally, she has been a longtime ambassador and fundraiser for the Scoliosis Research Society.
When you see news flash across your television or phone about a new Arkansas athletic director, know that our own Stacy Lewis had a hand in the decision.
The 2018 season will mark Lewis’ tenth season on the LPGA. She has 104 career top 10 finishes and has earned over $12 million on the course.
