Mi Jung Hur rolled to the top of the leaderboard early on day one with an incredible display of putting. The two-time winner on the LPGA Tour took the lead midway through the opening round of the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout Presented by JTBC. Hur came up just inches shy of matching the tournament record, 64 after a wayward approach into the par five 18^th. She settled for a six-under par, 65 to lead by two ahead of a group at four-under par including Marina Alex and Jennifer Song.

“Everything was really good today. My putter, I really liked the putter today,” Hur told the media. “I drop a lot of birdie putt and a chip, lots of chances to birdie as well.”

Hur made it around in 28 putts on Thursday and suffered just one mistake on day one. At the par four, 15^thHur hit a 4-hybrid off the tee which ran through the fairway and into the water. Confident in the putts she had been making all day long, Hur drained a 30-footer to save par and hang on to the outright lead.

“That was really great shot but the result wasn’t that good,” Hur said about her tee shot. “But I saved a par really good and I really satisfied with my round today.”

Swirling winds made conditions tough for players on day one but felt she got the better end of the draw by going out in the morning.

“The winds are swirling every hole, s it made me a little bit of a headache,” said Hur. “It’s going to be windy for the weekend as well, so that’s for distance and the club selection."

Hur is comfortable playing in Irving, Texas. She moved to the area three years ago and lives just 35 minutes from the site of this week’s event at Las Colinas Country Club. She finished tied for second in Texas last year.
